New Year, New Production

An exciting year is ahead ! We embark on a new creation, The Pigeon Dance, a new solo, which will première at KLAP Maison pour la danse in November, while M. Chevalier continues to tour the world with his acclaimed solo The Great Chevalier!

The Pigeon Dance marks the latest chapter in the mythical Ballet National Folklorique du Luxembourg’s resurrection: the long-awaited reconstruction of this lost ballet-opera, originally choreographed by one the company’s most iconic, yet often overlooked, female directors – Josiane Bal, successor to her mother and aunt, the founders Josephine and Claudine Bal. Josiane Bal’s original Pigeon Dance was not only the birthplace of today’s beloved folk dance of the same name (as performed, with stark brilliance, by M. Chevalier in our touring production The Great Chevalier) but most of all a fierce, intimate manifesto about womanhood.

Abruptly shut down by the Ballet National Folklorique du Luxembourg’s Board at the time, this complex jewel fell into oblivion to make way for the more palatable Josiane, the Country Girl, the 3-Act hit production that cemented the company’s international renown as a fixed star in the firmament of timeless contemporary folk spectacle legends.

The Pigeon Dance returns as a luminous feminist relic—urgent, haunting, and strikingly contemporary—supported by a brand-new sound score by French musician and composer Nosfell.
